Who the F*ck are you...
I know I’m not the only one that struggles with this from time to time. I run into people, and have friends that are asking themselves this more and more these days. It seems like I should be able to answer that pretty simply. Hell, It seems like you should be able to answer that pretty simply as well. Well today I’m asking, who the F*ck are you… It’s ok to not have the...

Work and play...
Lots of work and at least a little play recently. With the last few weeks being pretty full of things to do, a couple friends came down to the shop a couple days ago for a few drinks and “skating”. It was a nice stress reliever and reminder that every now and then it’s good to put the work down for a few and have some fun.

Last week I was asked a simple, but great question… “Why do you shoot personal work?”, by a fellow photographer and friend that has started Self Assignment. Like many photographers I’m sure, I dove into the pre-written set of answers for things like this but as I was about to hit send I thought about it a bit more and realized what a great question this was. I’ll...

Fads fade and trends are trendy...
Like many of you, I’ve noticed the large push for the “hand made in America” product again lately. Photography, and so many things are diving head first back into tradition and care for the process which is great, but is it just another fad? Photography has certainly had its share of this with over saturated, de-saturated, wide angle and HDR. All of which have their place and...
Busy Busy...
On the road again this time a quick trip to upstate New York for a shoot. Always fun traveling and seeing new places, though I am already excited for warmer weather. I’ve been working on some plans for a few trips and some fun shoots. In the meantime here’s a shot from earlier today leaving a cold Michigan once again.

Tons of new images up on the Keep Living blog, if you haven’t checked it out yet your missing out. Working on some pretty cool things for this project that I can’t wait to get out there. This image was taken this weekend after playing a show in Iowa with some good friends and plenty of drinks. This is Luke from The Brave Youth’s guitar or I should say what is left of it at...

Just got word that a project that I worked on with Drew Melton and Neil Hubert for Louise Fili was showcased on Inspiration Hut. Check out some cool behind the scenes shots and sketches from Drew and Neil as the project came together. This was a great group to be a part of, and hopefully we’ll get to work on something else soon.

So the good people over at Wonderful Machine featured one of my recent tear sheets which is pretty cool. This was shot for an issue of Today’s Chicago Woman magazine, the article was about stress in the workplace which is a pretty basic thing but the art director at the magazine loved the idea of pushing it a bit more so we decided to fill a room with papers and go from there. I love how...
Recent Tears...
I was recently asked to do a couple shoots for Rapid Growth here in Grand Rapids. The first was a shot of their new head photographer Adam Bird, and the second of local personal trainer Charlie Williams. Rapid Growth is a great place to check out whats new and going on in town so be sure to check it out.
Welcome to 2012...
Well here we go again, it’s a new year. This year I decided to kick things off with another great phone call to the amazing Amanda Sosa Stone. She is an amazing consultant that helped me get the ball rolling last year about this time, and it’s always a pleasure to work with her. I’m looking forward to a lot of things this year, a few that are already in the works, and a handful...

Giving back...
The last couple weeks have been amazing. I was able to spend some time using photography to give back to some very deserving people. My good friend Andrew Maguire and I headed off to be a part of Help Portrait over in Ann Arbor this year, if you haven’t heard of it take some time to check out their site. It was an amazing event to say the least. Next a group of local photographers teamed...
Keep living...
So I figured it was about time to make a post about a project that I’ve been working on for about a year now. I started a second blog heykeepliving.tumblr.com which has been a place to post snapshots, and things that I found interesting for some reason or another. This project started as a reason for me to keep taking and posting photographs even if they weren’t perfect, but it has...

Travels...
Last week was spent traveling from MI to L.A., San Francisco, and Sacramento for a few shoots. Got to spend lots of time with a view like this as well. I have to say I love getting away every now and then but it never seems like I get to see enough while I’m gone.

Check out the video James Morse did of the crew riding a few weeks back. Cold, but it was a blast. Thanks James!
Tattoo artists have true passion...
This is Chris Bettley - tattoo artist at Plowshare Tattoo. Chris is one of the most talentent people I know to handle a tattoo gun. Oddly enough I still haven’t had him do any work on me but I’m hoping to soon. This photo was taken as part of a portrait series I’ve been working on this past year about people doing what they love, not caring what the masses think or say, and...

Cold weather and motorcycle rides...
Well it took longer than expected but we finally got the first ride together in this past weekend. Felt good to get out on the bikes, for a cold but fun ride north of town for a day. Took these with the x100 over the shoulder, I’m falling more in love with this camera every time I use it.

New toys...
I recently picked up one of the new Fuji X100’s as an over the shoulder camera and have to say I’ve been loving it. No it’s not the most amazing camera in the world but it is a great all around toy to have for better quality shots on the fly. It hasn’t left my shoulder since it showed up on my door. I’m pretty excited to see how some of my work will grow because of...

The North...
This weekend was spent up in the very northern part of Wisconsin with family. I love it up there, quiet, peaceful, yet always something to get done no matter how small the task everything is important. We cut some wood, shot guns, and ate like kings for a few days then headed back home.

Still Remains...
Last night was the reunion show for some great friends of mine in Still Remains. After three years the guys finally got back together to play again and have been writing some amazing new songs as well. They packed out the newest GR venue (Pyramid Scheme) and all the bands put on one hell of a show! Here’s to great music, great friends, and that ringing in our ears the next morning.

Just found out today that a few of my recent shots of Tim and his CL350 are being featured on Cafe Racer TV. Check out the photos, a great little blurb from Tim about the bike, and a really interesting website in general. caferacertv.com
Tim's CL350
This is Tim with his 1973 Honda CL350. He’s done a ton of work on this bike taking it from stock to the cafe racer it is today but it looks pretty sweet. Tim is a part of the crew down at 120-c.com that does custom welding and fabrication work, and is also the guy who helped get my bike up and running this year.

Recent Shoot...
Got to shoot another cover for Revue this month with Ted Smith the owner of the Tip Top bar on the west side. If you haven’t been there yet make your way down it is a great place with a sweet vibe, and good beer. Ted is a super busy guy these days so a big thanks goes out to him for spending a little time with me for this.
Get out there...
This weekend was pretty relaxed for a change. Hung out with the family and worked on the bike a bit. Though I didn’t really get to get out there that much it was a great/ hot week, so hopefully this week will bring some cooler weather and a ride or two on the bike.
What ever happened to sexy looking cars...
On my drive home last week I noticed a bunch of sweet vintage cars so I decided to follow them for a bit. Turns out they were all pulling into this diner just north of town for a small show/ burger and beer. I love seeing these things on the road, it’s a true show of great craftsmanship and design in my opinion. Cars are just not made with the same care and taste these days, and not that...
Monsters are out there...
Came across this monster of a dandi lion, or whatever these are, while out with some friends this week. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these before but its always pretty cool when I do.
Following Classics...
The other day I was driving through town behind this great old couple out for a drive in a beautiful old classic car. I couldn’t figure out what it was but they sure looked like they were enjoying the day. I hope my wife and I can do that when we are older. After following them for a while, I pulled off to get gas and thought it was fitting to take a shot of the pump logo. So...
Warped Tour...
Last week my friend and fellow photographer and musician Ethan Luck called to say I should head over to Warped Tour to meet up. I haven’t been to Warped since I was 16 so I felt a bit out old but it was fun to see the excitement around music again. The photos are of Ethan hanging out after his show.
The music issue...
It’s that time again for the annual Revue music issue. This year I was lucky to have the cover again with a recent shot I did with Stepdad. We had a blast setting off a ton of smoke bombs for some shots. Keep an eye out for these guys as they are out on the road right now.
I also got to shoot with local record shop owner Gerry Dodd. Gerry is probably one of if not the most musically...

Climbing Mountains...
Yes, I know this is a pretty pathetic “mountain”… Yesterday I went out with singer/ songwriter Josh Mogck to shoot some images for an upcoming album he his currently working on. This is one of many great moments captured as we got to embrace our inner child. Can’t wait to see what he does with these and for the record to come out.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial day weekend. I spent mine with family and some of my brother in laws amazing smoked ribs.
Bone Yard...
Yesterday Luke and I took a trip up to a motorcycle bone yard in Mt. Pleasant to find a few parts for my bike. I’ve been to a couple of these places now and it always amazes me to see the amount of dead, forgotten bikes and other things. This yard went as far as you could see and it was pretty sweet.
The cat we just found chilling on that bike so I had to take a snapshot of it.
